Sheila Dikshit (born 31 March 1938) is an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of Delhi from 1998 to 2013. She is a member of the Indian National Congress. Dikshit led the Congress to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. In the December 2013 elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Dikshit was defeated in New Delhi constituency by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, who briefly replaced her as Delhi's chief minister. Subsequently, she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014. However, she resigned on 25 August 2014.She has been declared Chief Ministerial candidate for Indian National Congress in upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, 2017

Sheila Dikshit was born on 31 March 1938 in Kapurthala, Punjab into a Punjabi Khatri family.She was educated at the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in New Delhi and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in history from the Miranda House at the University of Delhi
Personal life:
Dikshit was married to Vinod Dikshit, son of independence activist and former West Bengal Governor Uma Shankar Dikshit, who came from Ugu village of Unnao.He was as an officer in the Indian Administrative Service. He died due to a heart attack in a train journey with his wife and children.

Dikshit has two children including a son, Sandeep Dikshit, who is a former Member of Parliament of the 15th Lok Sabha from East Delhi.and a daughter, Latika Syed.

Family history:

Nitish Kumar belongs to Kurmi caste. His parents are Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh and Parmeshwari Devi. Kumar's father, Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh was a freedom fighter as well as an Ayurvedic Vaidyaraj. Kumar's father left the Indian National Congress to join the Janata Party, as he was denied party ticket to contest 1952 and 1957 general elections. Kumar graduated in mechanical engineering from Bihar College of Engineering, Patna. Kumar's wife Manju Kumari Sinha passed away in 2007 and he has a son Nishant, who pursued engineering from the BIT, Mesra, Jharkhand.

Political career:

After participating in the stalwart Jayaprakash Narayan's movement in 1974 to 1977, Nitish made his debut in political world in 1980 Bihar elections. In 1985, he was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly as an independent candidate.

In 1987, Nitish became the President of the Yuva Lok Dal and in 1989, he became the Secretary-General of the Janata Dal. After working with the RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav, both parted ways and Nitish founded Samata Party in 1994. Kumar was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1989 and he served as the Minister of Surface Transport (1998 to 1999), Minister of Agriculture (1999 to 2001) and Minister of Railways (1998 to 1999 and 2001 to 2004).

Performance as Bihar CM:

Currently, serving as the 22nd Bihar Chief Minister for the second term, Nitish took first oath as the Bihar CM in 2000, but his first stint was short-termed that lasted only for a week because of lack of majority. Then, the RJD formed the government with Rabri Devi as the state's chief minister. In 2005 Bihar assembly elections, Nitish's JD(U) formed the government and since then, he has transformed Bihar from a backward state to one of the best-governed states in terms of development, infrastructure and most importantly, the crime also reduced under his rule. Besides, Nitish has introduced various schemes related to education and employment in rural areas. In his second term, some of the notable achievements of Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) government in Bihar are- Jankari scheme, E-shakti NREGS program, bicycle and meal programs (that led to fall in school drop out rates), 50% reservation in electorals to women and extremely backward castes, health schemes and loan schemes for farmers.

About Mamata Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee is the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal, India. She is the first lady to hold the Chief Minister’s office in the state. On 19 May 2016, she became the only women CM to win two consecutive terms. The thumping victory came on the heels of several corruption charges during the end of her tenure as the eighth chief minister. In 1997, Banerjee had dissociated herself from the Indian National Congress and founded the All India Trinamool Congress, also known as TMC or AITMC.

Ajay Maken's grandfather, O. P. Maken, was a freedom fighter and his family had political inclinations. He was elected as the President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1985, having the rare honour of being the only B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons.) Final Year student to serve this post.His victory as President, DUSU was largely due to the massive sympathy wave generated by the assassination of his uncle Lalit Maken. , a Member of Parliament from South Delhi. Ajay Maken was subsequently elected as the President of Delhi Transport Corporation Trade Union.

Delhi State Assembly:

1. He was made the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit in 1999.
2. In 2001, he was appointed as the Transport, Power and Tourism Minister. He implemented the CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) based Public Transport System in Delhi and is credited with the privatisation of the electricity distribution in Delhi.
3. In 2004, he was appointed the Speaker of Legislative Assembly of Delhi, at age 39, becoming India's youngest Speaker in a State Assembly.

Lok Sabha:

1. In the 2004 general election, Maken represented the Congress for the New Delhi constituency. He defeated a sitting Cabinet Minister, Jagmohan, from the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate. The constituency was a BJP stronghold, with many BJP stalwarts like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K.Advani having been elected from there.
2. From 2006 to 2009, he held the independent portfolios as the Minister of State and the Minister of Urban Development, the youngest minister in the Congress to be sworn in the Council of Ministers in Indian Government. H played a key role in finalising the Master Plan for New Delhi. In 2007, he was appointed a permanent invitee to the Working Committee of All India Congress Committee. He was entrusted with the responsibility of the states, Orissa and Jharkhand.
3. In the 2009 general elections, Maken retained the New Delhi Parliamentary constituency. He was appointed as the Minister of State for Home Affairs, entrusted with countering left wing extremism, raising of additional police battalions, and establishment of a national human rights division. In 2011, Maken was appointed the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs after the 2010
4. Commonwealth Games debacle, replacing M. S. Gill. He was appointed as Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in 2012.
5. Maken was defeated in the 2014 general elections by the BJP candidate Meenakshi Lekhi. He served as the Congress General Secretary until 2015, when he resigned after party's failure to win any seat in the 2015 Delhi Legislative Assembly election.
